John Minnich, MAcct, CPA, CGMA brings C-suite executive experience including founder and owner of a business advisory practice. He serves as business partner to CEOs, business owners, and executive teams advising businesses on forward-looking initiatives. Effective at growing professional relations, John is a versatile business professional and experienced CFO with business administration and operations expertise overseeing accounting and finance, human resources, information technology, and facilities management. With passions for business performance and strategy, his business and teaching interests include strategic financial management.
Purdue University Fort Wayne
John began developing and facilitating courses at Purdue University Fort Wayne in August 2019. He qualifies as an Instructional Practitioner (IP) subsequent to his initial appointment since he holds a Master’s in the field he leads sessions, had substantial professional experience before his initial appointment, and has ongoing substantive professional engagement. This includes founder and executive of Strategic Executive Advisory, a business and client advisory services firm, and active membership including leadership roles with several professional organizations.
In the Purdue University Fort Wayne Doermer School of Business (DSB) (AACSB accredited) at both MBA graduate and undergraduate levels, John enjoys engaging with current and emerging business professionals on forward-thinking initiatives. Current on business best practices, he has served on the DSB strategic planning committee providing relevant business expertise and professional connections to DSB including his courses.
Business Advisor Expert
John is an advisor to the business community, coaching and consulting with business leaders on business performance and strategy through (1) his practice and affiliations with (2) Oodles Complete Advisory Solution and (3) REF Indiana. John specializes in small and medium-sized businesses (SMBs) with $10-$300 million annual revenue. He also partners with business owners with less than $10 million annual revenue who are committed to growing.
As expert on business and client advisory services, he nationally coaches and trains small and medium-sized CPA firm and sole practitioner clients on business advisory. Nationally, he also leads professional development sessions on business advisory and executive leadership including CFO for CPAs through professional organizations. John accepted an invitation to serve as (1) business advisor and (2) certified executive forum leader for C-suite executives with REF, a global community of business leaders made up exclusively by presidents, CEOs, key C-suite executives including CFOs, financial executives, company founders, and experts. He joined a team of successful business executives in northern Indiana.
John is a trailblazer and leader offering client advisory services. In 2023, (INCPAS) featured a member case study on John. In 2022, Northeast Indiana Innovation Collective (NIIC) interviewed him on business advisory and executive coaching which included a press release.
John is highly active with several professional organizations at the local, regional, and national level. He has served as Financial Executives International-Fort Wayne (FEI) president including member of FEI’s national committee on governance, risk, and compliance and national mentor for financial leaders. As FEI Fort Wayne president, he was appointed to a national Chapter Model Task Force (CMTF). The national task force was charged with national assessment and national board recommendations to enhance the strategic alignment and performance of FEI Chapters, serving nearly 10,000 financial executives and 65 Chapters across the US. With financial executive connections across the country, he is an active FEI member, both regionally and nationally, attending national financial leadership summits alongside 500+ executives.
John served on the INCPAS leadership council (2 years) and leadership cabinet (5 years). With INCPAS, he also participated by board of directors’ appointment on the integrated report assurance committee (IRAC) reporting to the INCPAS board executive committee. The purpose of the committee is to assure the accuracy of strategic and operational information in the INCPAS integrated report as well as its compliance with the framework developed by the International Integrated Reporting Council (IIRC).
John is a current, active member of both INCPAS (1) firm practice management and (2) client advisory services member sections. Firm practice management focuses on employer best practices, staffing trends, succession strategies, upcoming events, trainings, member discussions, and more to help elevate CPA firm success. Client advisory services member section is a resource for implementing new lines of service and opportunities to grow revenue, upcoming events, trainings, and member discussions.
Interning first with Baden, Gage & Schroeder, he commenced his career in public accounting (spanning 10 years) with Katz, Sapper & Miller (KSM) as auditor with exposure to tax in Indianapolis prior to Dulin, Ward & DeWald (DWD CPAs & Advisors) in his hometown of Fort Wayne. He has served 100s of clients in many business sectors. John was (1) QuickBooks Advanced ProAdvisor Certified Expert in his practice and (2) Sage CRM and ERP Certified accounting software systems consultant (6 years) with DWD Technology Group. He held additional roles with Parkview Health as financial operations analyst presenting monthly reports and recommendations to administration including physicians and surgeons.
John is a member of American Institute of CPAs (AICPA), Association for Corporate Growth (ACG), Financial Executives International (FEI), Indiana CPA Society (INCPAS), and National Speakers Association (NSA) in addition to Greater Fort Wayne, Inc. including CEO roundtable, Indy Chamber, and South Bend Regional Chamber.
Business and Community Leader
Accomplishing the above by his early 40s, John is an alum of Leadership Fort Wayne (Greater Fort Wayne, Inc.) and YLNI (Young Leaders of Northeast Indiana) Leadership Institute. Connected and active professional in the business community, he is also a recognized Greater Fort Wayne Business Weekly Forty Under 40. Locally, regionally, and nationally, John has served on several boards and committees including executive.
A first-generation college student, he holds graduate and undergraduate degrees, magna cum laude, in accounting from Manchester University. John earned Cornell University certificates in (1) executive leadership, (2) high-performance leadership, and (3) strategic human resources leadership in addition to several business leadership programs as business executive. John’s licensures include and , passing all four (4) sections of the CPA exam at once on first attempt prior to earning his Master’s. As practitioner, he maintains an average of 40 hours of continuing professional education (CPE) annually in (1) business leadership and management and (2) technical fields of study (i.e., auditing, accounting, finance, information technology).
